What to See in Tallinn

Tallinn Old TownTallinn is famed for its UNESCO Heritage Old Town, much like Riga and Vilnius most of the tourism takes place around this area. Unlike Riga and Vilnius however, Tallinn's old town has a real medieval feeling. Perched atop of a limestone hill, the ancient streets wind their way up to Toopmea castle where today Estonia's parliament sit.

From the top of the hill, you can see Tallinn's small but perfectly formed Old Town as well as the port area and into the bay of Tallinn. Another great vantage point allows you to see over modern day Tallinn, with its skyscrapers and glass buildings mixing into former soviet architecture and a busy downtown. This blend is unlike many cities in Europe and gives you a real glimpse into old working with new...

No medieval city is complete without a central square, Tallinn's Town Hall Square is as busy today as it was in the 15th century. Filled with bars, cafes and restaurants this large square is home to the epicentre of things happening in Tallinn. You will find souvenir stall and shops, street artists and the Town Hall itself.

If you are pushed for time, then taking one of our Segway or Bike tours is the perfect alternative. Take in the sights of the Old Town and the ‘Quiet Centre’ in only a couple of hours with our sightseeing guide.

Tallinn has been an independant country since 1991, from the second world war until tis time Tallinn was under Soviet rule. A dark time in European history and one that has shaped every Estonian today, we will never truely understand or appreciate what happened but a visit to the Occupation museum and KGB museum will go someway to showing what happend over this 46 year period.

One of the best places to visit is the Skyline bar at the top of Radisson Blu Sky Hotel. Located on the 24th floor 90mtrs above the Tallinn cityscape, the Skyline offers some of the best views of the city. The best time to visit is for sunset; however finding a table can be a little tricky. After sunset The Skyline shifts its tempo with some groovy beats and a trendy atmosphere, take one of our Tallinn Nightlife Tours to experience one of the hippest bars in town.
